The City of Saskatoon started hashing out what the future garbage collection system will look like for the next few years to accommodate mandatory curbside organics which is set to come online next year.  When it does Saskatoon residents will then have a green bin, blue bin for recycling and black bin for garbage.

Today (tues), the Environment and Utilities Committee will ponder different cart size options for garbage collection. The options are part of part of a report readying the City for a move to variable garbage cart utility in January of 2024.

Option-1, the recommended option from City Administration is three different cart sizes which would be available upon request. Residents would be able to pick a cart size ranging from 180 litres, 240 litres to the current 360-litre option for year round bi-weekly pick-up.

Option-2 is two different garbage bin sizes with the current 360 litre option and a medium, 240 litre option.
